Maldives records additional COVID-19 death; toll at 34

The Maldives has recorded an additional COVID-19 death.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said a 90 year old admitted at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility passed away early Monday at 01:30 am. The official death toll has now reached 34.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives have started to decline, as well as the number of cases recorded daily. 75 cases were reported over the past 24 hours, with only 22 locals testing positive. This is the least number of locals to have tested positive after a lockdown, and later a semi lockdown was imposed in Male’. The total number of cases is now at 9,724.

However, authorities have warned that it is too early to say the number of positive cases per day are consistently declining, making it unsafe to ease restrictive measures at the time being.
