COVID-19 stats: Number of daily cases fall below 50

The Maldives on Monday recorded 46 cases of COVID-19. This is the first time the numbers have fallen below 50 after a semi-lockdown was imposed in the capital, Male’.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 1,310 samples were tested in the 24 hours leading up to 6pm on Monday. 44 cases were identified in the Greater Male’ Region while the remaining cases were recorded from the atolls. The new cases are of 31 locals and 15 foreigners, raising the tally to 9,770.

HPA also announced 129 recoveries, increasing the total number of recoveries to 8,390. While 34 deaths have been recorded to date, with the most recent death recorded early Monday, the number of active cases is 1,424.
