Seven arrested in connection to 130kg drug bust

Maldives Police Service has revealed that 130 kgs of drugs were discovered from the fishing vessel raided last Monday.

According to the police, seven people have been arrested in relation to the drugs discovered on the boat moored at Hulhumale’ Harbour. Those arrested include six local men aged between 25 and 48, and an underage boy, said the police. The child has been remanded into custody for 10 days by the Juvenile Court.

The police conducted the operation on Monday after police intelligence were tipped off on plans to transport drugs via sea. While a large amount of drugs were discovered on the vessel, three apartments in Hulhumale and two in Male' were subsequently searched in connection to the case. The main perpetrators involved in the case are Shaheeb Ibrahim, 42 and Ahmed Moosa, 48. Shaheeb is linked to the Iranian boat which was seized on Maldivian waters last year. Shaheeb was the person who took responsibility for the seven people who were arrested from the Iraninan boat. All persons, including Shaheeb were later released by the Criminal Court. Shaheeb has been remanded to 15 days in custody after the new arrest.
