130kg drug case: mastermind further remanded

The suspected mastermind behind the recently foiled attempt to smuggle 130kg of drugs has been further remanded.

The suspected brains behind the smuggling are Ahmed Moosa, as well as a 42 year old and Shaheeb Ibrahim from Light House, Ga. Villingili. Ahmed Moosa from Violet Villa, Ha. Hoarafushi was arrested along with Shaheeb and five others on October 15 during a special operation carried out by the police. Out of the these, Ahmed Moosa has been further remanded for 15 days following the expiration of the initial remand period.

The operation was conducted upon receiving the information regarding an attempt to smuggle drugs via a boat. The police said a large amount of drugs were seized from the boat docked off Hulhumale'. Three apartments from the reclaimed suburb as well as two houses in Male' were also searched in connection to the drug bust.

The police have been conducting several operations against drug smuggling including a special operation carried out in Addu City where approximately 100 kg of drugs were confiscated.
