COVID-19: Entry, exit restricted from Ungoofaaru island

Entry and exit from Raa Ungoofaaru has been restricted after a COVID-19 case was identified on the island.

Ungoofaaru has been put under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s monitoring status after a random sample from the island tested positive for COVID-19. The samples were collected from Ungoofaaru after a large number of expatriates at a neighbouring uninhabited island tested positive for the virus. The person who tested positive from Ungoofaaru works as a cashier at a local cafe’.

The Maldives has recorded 11,505 positive cases of COVID-19 until now. While 45 cases have been identified from 22 different islands, cases have also been recorded in 26 tourist resorts. The islands that are currently under HPA monitoring are capital Male’ and Kulhudhuffushi city in addition to Ungoofaaru.
