Ungoofaru to remain under HPA monitoring despite negative test

The second sample taken from the individual who tested positive to COVID-19 in R. Ungoofaru has come back negative.

A random sample taken from R. Ungoofaru on 26th October 2020 tested positive to COVID-19, bringing the entire island under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status.

Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health Thasleema Abubakuru Thursday said the second sample taken from the individual had tested negative. According to Thasleema, despite the individual’s second sample testing negative, the island will remain under HPA's monitoring for the time being, as workers from nearby island Kudakurathu had travelled to Ungoofaaru. The island, which is a resort in development, has recorded 63 positive cases of the virus. Active samples are being taken while R. Ungoofaru will remain under
monitoring until the results of all samples are received, said Thasleema.
