Entry and exit have been restricted from tourism island, K. Maafushi.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the island has been placed under the agency’s monitoring after a tourist staying at a local guest house, who had been in close contact with other persons on the island, tested positive for COVID-19. The virus was detected during an executive screening process.
Maafushi will remain under HPA’s monitoring until the contact tracing process is completed or until informed otherwise.
The Maldives suspended local tourism as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 earlier in March, and resumed the sector on October 15. Guesthouses in few islands such as Maafushi, Huraa, Guraidhoo, Thoddoo, Rasdhoo, Thinadhoo and Keyodhoo have resumed operation despite the relaxation of measures. This is the first time an island where a guest house is in operation has been brought under HPA monitoring.
