COVID-19: Eight cases identified in Fuvahmulah City

Eight cases of COVID-19 have been identified from Fuvahmulah CIty thus far.

While two cases were identified from the island on Tuesday, one sample came back negative after repeating the test. Fuvahmulah Hospital Wednesday said the positive case identified from among 150 random samples was that of a contact of a person who had returned to Fuvahmulah from Dubai and tested positive while in quarantine. More samples linked to the new case were taken, out of which seven came back positive, said the hospital.

Fuvahmulah City is currently under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status. The City Council said all schools are closed and that parties, ceremonies and other events have been banned. While visiting households is no longer allowed, salons, gyms, hairdressers have been closed and all sports activity have been halted. Restaurants, cafe's and hotels are not allowed to serve dine-in customers, and can only offer delivery services, said the council.
