The body of a soldier who went missing at sea has been recovered.
Lance Corporal Hussain Farish waded out to sea with four other soldiers in L. Kadhdhoo during off-duty hours for fishing. He was reported missing after he did not return from sea. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s initiated efforts to locate the missing soldier, and divers from MNDF’s Central Area Coast Guard Squandron were tasked with camvassing the sea area.
According to MNDF, Farish’s body was recovered by divers around 8:50 pm on Tuesday night. He was already dead when found. His body has since been taken to Kadhdhoo.
MNDF said one other solder is being treated at the hospital for drowning. MNDF said he drowned while attempting to rescue Farish who got caught in a strong current. His condition is improving, said MNDF.
