HPA bans inter-island travel amid spike in infections

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned inter island travel within atolls effective from 4th May.

The directive signed and issued by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru said traveling will be allowed between islands only for essential needs and medical services only.

The Maldives' COVID-19 situation has been deteriorating over the past week, and the country recorded a single-day record of 501 positive cases on Saturday. The country's tally is at 30,745 and 74 have died from the virus.
